A. Penjelasan tentang Jenis Kalimat Bahasa Inggris

 

Terdapat 3 jenis kalimat dalam bahasa Inggris yaitu sebagai berikut:

 

1) Simple Sentence

A sentence that has one independent clause is called a simple sentence. Sebuah kalimat yang memiliki sebuah klausa / induk kalimat disebut sebagai kalimat sederhana (simple sentence).

 

Contoh kalimat:

• It was a sunny day.
• (Hari itu adalah hari yang cerah)
• Raise your hand to ask a question.
• (Angkat tanganmu untuk menanyakan pertanyaan)

 

2) Compound Sentence

Compound sentence is a sentence that has two or more independent clauses joined by a comma (,) and a coordinating conjunction. Kalimat majemuk setara (compound sentence) adalah sebuah kalimat yang memiliki dua atau lebih klausa / induk kalimat yang disatukan dengan menambahkan tanda koma (,) dan kata hubung. Kata hubung (coordinating conjuction) ini berupa kata for, and, or, so, but, nor, atau yet.

 

Contoh kalimat:

• It was a snowy day, so we just stayed at home.
• (Hari itu adalah hari yang bersalju, jadi kami berdiam di rumah saja)
• Talk quietly, or don’t talk at all.
• (Bicara perlahan, atau jangan bicara sama sekali)

 

3) Complex Sentence

Complex sentence is a sentence that has one independent and one or more dependent clauses. Kalimat majemuk bertingkat (complex sentence) adalah sebuah kalimat yang memiliki satu intuk kalimat (independent sentence) dan satu atau lebih anak kalimat (dependent sentences). Tanda koma (,) digunakan ketika anak kalimat terletak sebelum induk kalimat.

 

Contoh kalimat:

• Pour the seasonings into the bowl while the noodle is cooking.

(Tuangkan bumbu ke dalam mangkuk ketika mi sedang dimasak)

• While the noodle is cooking, pour the seasonings into the bowl.

(Ketika mi sedang dimasak, tuangkan bumbu ke dalam mangkuk)

Don’t forget to review your notes as soon as you can. Third, brave yourself to ask questions whenever you don’t understand something. All of the professors in a college want their students to succeed, so don’t be afraid to ask questions. Fourth, get to know your professors perdonally. Try to meet them in their office during office hours, and introduce yourself. You will not want to waste professors’ time, but you can make sure they know your face and name. Finally, get a job in the bookstore, or get involved in a campus activity. Go to football and basketball games. Join a club. Be friendly, and talk to everyone.
